THE CHALLENGE
Crown Control Systems were requested to assist in the development of the Siemens S7 software specification for the Discovery 3 body shop project at Land Rover Solihull.
Crown’s engineer was given the specific task of developing the software specification for manual welding fixtures in the new body shop. This particular function had proved troublesome on a previous project, mainly due to inadequate software specification and control.
THE SOLUTION
Land Rover had developed a raw software template which Crown’s engineer tested on a simulation rig at the Land Rover site. Various failure modes were envisaged and recovery modes developed. A robust, tested software template with accompanying documentation was issued ready for use by British and German subcontract software developers.
